  6. This demo consists of 7 separate LHA files (MYST-demo1.lha , MYST-demo2.lha ... MYST-demo7.lha).

  13. INTRODUCTION
  14. ------------

  16. It's now more than four months since Myst was released, and it's time for a playable demo 
  17. for those Amiga users who still don't own the game. 
  18.  
  19. Myst is #1 selling Amiga game from the day it was released.
  20.  
  21. Moreover, both English and German version each *separately* outsold any other Amiga game 
  22. since the day of its release!
  23.  
  24. Myst is also #2 game of 1997 on PC.  #1 is Riven:The Sequel to Myst.
  25.

  27. For a while we hesitated to release a playable demo, as Myst is an extremely big game 
  28. (the biggest ever on the Amiga), and unlike any other adventure. For these reasons it is 
  29. very hard to take one small part of it and be able to show to a new player what it is 
  30. that makes Myst so attractive.
  31.  
  32. Despite its size of 30Mb decompressed, this demo represents only about 5% of the 
  33. whole game (600Mb).  In order to keep the size reasonable, we had to choose a part 
  34. of the game where there are not many puzzles and large QuickTime animation files.

  37. WHAT IS IT
  38. ----------

  40. It's a playable demo of a part of Mechanical island. 
  41.  
  42. AGA and CGFX/P96 versions of the code are included.
  43.  
  44. Double click on the appropriate icon (AGA or CGFX), and choose the screenmode.
  45. (screenmode will be saved and used next time you play the demo)

  51. 8Mb RAM
  52. 68020 or better CPU
  53. High-res display (min. 640x400) 8 or 24-bit
  54. AHI (included in the archive)

  58. ------------

  60. - Create a drawer "MYST-demo" on your HD with min. 30Mb free.
  61. - Decompress all 7 LHA files to this directory.

  69. Right mouse button when you want to exit.

  72. TROUBLESHOOTING

  75. The game has been on the market for several months now, and all bugs/quirks have been 
  76. fixed and incorporated into the demo (corresponds to v1.1 of the code). 
  77.  
  78. Therefore, if you have trouble running it chances are your system software is not 
  79. set up correctly (AHI, CGFX...).
